Who We Are

Picture

We "Go" make a difference in the lives of the people we serve on the mission field, "Send" out missionaries to serve where they are called to serve, and "Bless" our Missionaries and their children so that they can answer God’s mandate to “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19

While visiting Haiti,  We saw the need firsthand for girls in orphanages to learn basic skills.  As I was crocheting, while visiting with girls in an orphanage, We saw a hunger for learning!  The girls shared the story of learning to sew prior to the big earthquake.  Their teacher never showed up again after the quake.  They feared that she had died, and they were hungering to be taught again! I taught them some basic things and left the hook and yarn with them.  It was hard to see them going without basic things that we take for granted. The look on their faces when they saw a towel sticking out of one of our bags made us realize these teenage girls, who were living in tents, didn’t have basic things like towels to dry themselves after a shower.

This will be my second time going to Mexico with my church. Each year, we partner with Amor Ministries to build homes for the homeless and needy in Mexico. This year, we'll... be going back to Tacate, which is a poor suburb of Tijuana. Last year, we were able to build a home that we would think was just a woodshed, but to the family we build it for, it is a roof over their head and shelter from the sun. Neiborhood kids watch with interest as we build the house from the foundation up using no power tools at all, including mixing the cement by hand, building walls one nail at a time with our hammers, tarring the roof, and chicken wiring and stuccoing the outside walls, a process that takes less than 4 days. Last year, the family labeled us "ants" because we worked so hard. When asked why we would spend our spring break to do this, our only reply is "to show the love of Jesus Christ". We even pull the neighborhood kids together and give them gifts (crayons, books, yo-yos, Spanish Bibles, and soccer balls) and share watermelon with them. We'll be doing another VBS style ministry with the kids to help them see Jesus Christ as their Lord, Savior, and friend, not just some random person they've heard about. We'll be pouring into the kids and the family to share the love of Jesus Christ in a real, personal way that will lead them to have a personal relationship with God.

We supported a team from East River Fellowship that went to Mexico to work with Amor Ministries in Mexico building homes for poor families. These families have no electricity, no running water, no place to live, and no
relationship with Jesus Christ.  They
had the opportunity to give them a home and share the saving news of Jesus
Christ with them.

We help missionaries raise their support and send gifts to the missionaries on the field at Christmas and birthdays.  We’ve made quilts for the children of several of our missionaries.  It is such a delight to see the children’s faces as they got their quilts! We were pleased to have an opportunity to experience that firsthand while visiting my daughter, a missionary, in the country she was serving, when we delivered the quilts from All4Missions to  the children of two of the missionary families we support.
